What Happens in To the Depths with You

Kyoko finally explains what Project Capricorn was. The construct was assembled from digitised psyches and installed in a series of hosts, every one of whom died during integration. D is the first subject to survive it, which makes him valuable, not lucky. Arasaka shut the programme down because the cost was unsustainable, and Kang Tao has been quietly trying to restart it ever since.

The episode also delivers its emotional bomb. Omi, frustrated and frightened, says D's real name out loud: David. It is the same first name as season 1's David Martinez, and the show knows exactly what it is doing by putting it here, seven episodes in, after the audience has spent six weeks insisting the two stories are unconnected.

D's methods are getting worse. The raids are less strategic and more theatrical, and both Omi and Roman confront him about it. Neither gets through. Capri's influence is no longer subtext; the people around him can see the shape of it.

On the Talia side, Avida confirms the plan. Soulkiller, paired with a compatible host body, could preserve Talia's consciousness and give her somewhere else to live. It is a heist-sized operation with a corporate-grade target, and Weak and Avida begin planning it together — two people who used to be in love, agreeing to do something terrible for the same child.

The episode's quietest scene is its most important. Talia and Roman go to a movie, and she asks him to arrange a meeting with D. Capri intervenes and stops her. It is the first time the construct has directly blocked one of Talia's choices, and it is the moment the show stops being ambiguous about the risk.

New Characters and Reveals

D's real name

Omi calls him David. This is not a resurrection twist and not a secret identity in the superhero sense. It is a name, shared with a dead legend, in a city that recycles everything — including the names of its martyrs.

Project Capricorn's cost

Every previous host died. That fact reframes both Capri and D: she is not a tool that happens to be dangerous, she is a process that has killed everyone it has touched, and he is the exception she has been waiting for.

It also makes Kyoko complicit in a way the episode does not soften. She built the process, she watched it fail, and she is explaining it now with something that sounds like professional pride. The show does not ask her to apologise. It just lets her keep talking, and lets the audience do the judging.

Episode 7 Ending Explained

Capri stopping Talia from meeting D is the episode's real cliffhanger. Up to this point the construct has been framed as a passenger. Here she demonstrates that she can override the person she is supposed to be sharing a body with.

The Soulkiller plan is the other ticking clock. Everyone in the room knows what Soulkiller does to the person it is used on, and everyone agrees to use it anyway.
