Who Is D?

D is the second of the four leads and the season's engine. He is a Snake Nation netrunner whose clan was wiped out in a raid he survived, and he has spent the years since working backwards through contracts, crews and corpses to find whoever gave the order.

He is also the character most likely to be misunderstood by new viewers. D is not a stoic avenger with a secret heart of gold; he is a man actively becoming worse. The show is honest about that, and it is why his arc lands harder than a straightforward revenge plot would.

If you have only seen the trailers, the single most important thing to know is this: D's real name is David. It is revealed in episode 7 by Omi. He is not David Martinez from season 1, but the series deliberately puts the two names next to each other.

D's Story in Edgerunners 2

Episodes 1–2: The hunt

D arrives in the story rescuing Roman from a Maelstrom chop shop, less out of kindness than because Roman is useful. He is hunting a man named Helio, the last lead he has on the raid that killed his clan. The interrogation reframes everything: Helio was hired, he backed out, and the contract came from someone with corporate money behind it.

Episodes 3–4: Capri

Following the corporate thread leads D and Roman into an Arasaka archive, where an experimental personality construct — Capri — attaches herself to D. She offers him power in exchange for staying. He accepts, and the archive run turns up something worse than a lead: deleted records linking D, Talia and David Martinez to the same buried project.

From this point D is no longer a netrunner with a grudge. He is a host, and Capri's presence changes what he is willing to do. The episode 4 recap covers the reveal in detail.

Episodes 5–8: Escalation

D's revenge goes public. Masked raids on Arasaka facilities become a viral campaign, and Omi — his oldest friend and the only other survivor of the clan — warns him that revenge will not bring their family back. D does not listen. He tortures a captive, kills an Arasaka executive after she tells him everyone responsible is already dead, and incites a citywide riot that Weak and Avida use as cover for their Soulkiller heist.

That riot is also where Avida dies. D never learns it directly, but it is the season's clearest statement about what his vengeance costs other people.

Episodes 9–10: Capri over revenge

Kang Tao captures D and the shard, then loses both. By episode 9 he has stopped pretending: he tells Omi the revenge is empty and that what he actually wants is Capri back. In the finale he separates Talia from Capri, reunites the two halves of the construct, and goes out to meet three corporate armies with a rebuilt body.

His last gesture is a smile into Roman's camera. Whether he dies there is deliberately unresolved — see the ending breakdown for the evidence on both sides.

Voice Actor and Design

D is voiced by Koki Uchiyama in Japanese and Nazeeh Tarsha in English. The design is built around contrast: a lean nomad silhouette against Night City's chrome-heavy gangs, with red facial scarring and green optics that read as damage rather than decoration.

As Capri's influence grows, his silhouette changes — the rebuilt body in the finale is unmistakably not the one he started with.

Trivia and Details

  • Official birthday: October 1. Blood type AB.
  • His clan is part of Snake Nation, a nomad alliance referenced throughout Cyberpunk 2077 lore.
  • The name reveal in episode 7 is the season's biggest structural echo of season 1 — and the source of most fan confusion.
  • He appears in every episode and is the only character besides Roman who is present for both the opening heist and the final battle.
